FPF members attended two recent Du Du Fisher concerts, which resulted in substantial donations to FPF. The first was in September in the ancient amphitheater at Beit Shean, where our members enjoyed Fisher's performance as it was filmed for the PBS television network. The second took place in Jerusalem during October, at the International Conference Center. Fisher presented a program featuring Yiddush songs that was thoroughly enjoyed by the FPF members in attendance.

The Forgotten People Fund (FPF) was honoured by Netanya municipality with an award for "outstanding volunteer service" in a ceremony which took place on Thursday, July 31, 2008 at the Netanya Amphitheatre. A large crowd watched as Netanya Mayor Miriam Fierberg presented the award, in the form of an engraved trophy, to Anne Silverman and Aida Miller, tireless workers for FPF. After the two had returned to their seats, they were surprised and gratified to receive a gift from a group of Ethiopian social workers, in recognition and appreciation of FPF's efforts to assist Netanya's Ethiopian community.

One of FPF's most significant programs is providing bar and bat mitzvah experiences for Ethiopian families who would otherwise be unable to provide them. The most recent bar mitzvah was in June, 2008.  A family from Connecticut, USA, decided that their son would share his good fortune with 15 young men in far-off Israel, expanding his bar mitzvah into an experience that they and the Ethiopian families will never forget.
FPF was able to find an appropriate religious junior high in Netanya to work with the family who provided a dedicated computer to the school with which the boys and their son, Henry, could talk (via Skype) in the months leading up to the celebration. Arranging all this was not a simple proposition, but FPF and the family's liaison in Israel were able to bring off the affair in a fabulously successful manner.
Successful fundraiser at Canadian ambassador's residence. On Tuesday June 24th, 2008 the Ambassador for Canada, Mr. Jon Allen and his wife Clara Hirsch invited scores of FPF members and others to their residence in Herzliya Pituach for a reception to benefit FPF. Besides the delightful surroundings and plentiful refreshments, the attendees were entertained by several young musicians, two violinists and two pianists, from the Netanya Ethiopian community. A substantial sum was raised to benefit the Ethiopian community and a good time was had by all.

On a glorious Monday in 2008, a group of FPF walkers joined Bradley Cohen of allforthekids.org on a fun walk on the Netanya ocean front promenade. FPF raised thousands of shekels in advance of the walk from sponsors. In addition, each walker paid a registration fee, all for the benefit of our Ethiopian kids - several of whom joined in the festivities. We walked about 8 km in perfect weather conditions and afterwards  enjoyed a delightful lunch at a cafe on the promenade.
Following the success of our Bar mitzvah Project, in 2007 we organised a Bat mitzvah function for 36 girls from a religious school in Kiryat Nordau in Netanya.

In June 2006, Anglo Israel Events, a Ra’anana based event organizing company celebrated 13 years of existence and to mark this event, and to share their “Barmitzvah” with others, they joined forces with us to organize a group Barmitzvah for 13 Ethiopian boys.
