Dear Aida,
My son, Yitzhak, and I really want to thank you for what you and your friends have done for us. He has stopped crying at night the way he did for weeks because he was in so much pain from his teeth. I used to sit with him and we would cry together – he from the pain and I because I didn’t know where to find the money for the dentist to treat him. He needed to have some extractions and root canal treatment, but until I paid the dentist, they refused to help him.
I work two hours every day taking care of an elderly Ethiopian lady, and that helps to put food on the table for my family. I have three other children – Yitzhak, 9, is the youngest – and they are all in school and need so many things that we can’t give them. My husband has severe asthma and can’t work. He has to take medication and can’t go anywhere without an inhalator. As a chronically ill pensioner, he receives 2,500 shekels every month and with this he pays for our rent, our gas, electricity, water and city taxes. When I ask him for money to buy things for the children, he asks me where I think he can get it for them. He was as upset as I was about the way Yitzhak was suffering, but neither of us knew where to turn.
Fortunately, we heard about you and your organization from someone at the health clinic and when I called you, you told me to come and see you with the estimate from the dental clinic of the cost for Yitzhak’s treatment. On the spot, you gave me the check to pay for the first two treatments, and when I told you that Yitzhak needed another treatment, you sent me the check for that one. Now Yitzhak has an appointment in March for the last two fillings and he will be as good as new. When I told you that we had no closet for the children in their bedroom, you arranged to have a nearly new one sent to us and your carpenter came and set it up for us. Now the children have place to put their clothes away instead of keeping them in boxes on the floor.
Yitzhak and I, and my whole family want to express our thanks for everything that you and your friends at your Fund have done for us. We will never forget your kindness to us.
With many thanks,
Birtukan and Yitzhak Kiryat Nordau, Netanya |
