We are a hands-on charity run by volunteers to help Ethiopian families living below the poverty line in Netanya.

The Forgotten People Fund (FPF) was honoured by Netanya municipality with an award for "outstanding volunteer service" in a ceremony which took place on Thursday, July 31st at the Netanya Amphitheatre. A large crowd watched as Netanya Mayor Miriam Fireberg presented the award, in the form of an engraved trophy, to Anne Silverman and Aida Miller, tireless workers for FPF. After the two had returned to their seats, they were surprised and gratified to receive a gift from a group of Ethiopian social workers, in recognition and appreciation of FPF's efforts to assist Netanya's Ethiopian community.

We are looking for friends to help us.  Netanya has the largest number of Ethiopians living in one city in Israel (13,000) and many of them are recent newcomers (arrived between 2002 and 2006) who are struggling to become acclimatized to life in Israel.

Rosh Hashana Appeal  In this difficult economic climate, you may have decided to postpone or downsize an expensive vacation. Or, you may choose to go to a less expensive restaurant for a night out. But, unlike our Ethiopian families, you haven't had to think about skipping a meal each day because of lack of grocery money, or not attending high holiday services because you haven't any presentable clothing. Thank G-d for that!      This is the time of year for all of us to appreciate the blessings that we enjoy and to think about sharing some of our good fortune with those less fortunate, whose daily life is often a struggle. Please make a generous contribution now to FPF, where you know that 99% of your donation goes directly to the Ethiopian community in Netanya. (You can't get better value for money!) Shana Tovah from the FPF family!   Click here to make a donation.

The next luncheon is at 12.30 on Tuesday, November 11 at the King Solomon Hotel.  Our speaker is Ariel Kerem, the former Israeli Ambassador to Ethiopia, who will talk about his experiences with the Ethiopian aliyah. Please call Anne Silverman at 09-862-2243 or hihosilv@netvision.net.il to reserve your place.

The FPF Dining Club offers the opportunity to dine in excellent kosher restaurants outside the Netanya city limits. Please join us Tuesday, 9th September 2008 for a special dinner at TERIAKI Restaurant – Petach Tikva – 19:30  Click for more details and more events.

Our target is Ethiopian families living below the poverty line. We work with all the local social workers and also cooperate with school counselors and health workers. We also meet the families and discuss the best ways in which we can help them.
